Celebration & Special Visits

Pupils at High Well School marked Remembrance Day by making Remembrance Day displays.  KS2 pupils completed art work for their display and it is displayed in their classroom at Cherry Tree.  Pupils at main site created a display for the entrance to school.  A lot of hard work went in to the display, which looks amazing!  Pupils and staff also observed a minute’s silence.

Pupils at High Well School took part in a Careers Fair on Friday 7th November 2025.  There were a variety of stalls for pupils to visit including: Wakefield College, Ask About Apprenticeships and Elite Training Systems Yorkshire to name a few.  Pupils asked some great questions and found out information about their Post 16 options.  The visitors that came to our school were very impressed with our pupils and we received some great feedback.

"Thanks for hosting a fantastic morning. I don’t get out much, these days, being a digital adviser, but this is the highlight of my year. Pupils and staff alike, make you feel welcome and it’s always a pleasure."

"Just a quick thank you for inviting us along to the careers fair today. It was lovely to meet your young people who were all so lovely and a real credit to the school. The colour coded questions worked really well and is something I am planning on pinching for our next careers event if that is ok with you!"

Pupils and staff took part in a STEAM Halloween afternoon on Thursday 23rd October 2025.  Staff took part in a Halloween fancy dress competition.  Pupils and staff took part in a carousel of Halloween STEAM activities including: lava lamps, pumpkin carving, slime making, Halloween makeup and Halloween baking.  Staff and pupils had lots of fun enjoying these STEAM activities.  It was a great way to end the half term.

The Kindness Challenge Week (6th - 10th October)

Pupils and staff completed different kindness challenges in school and spread kindness.

Rapper and poet – Thursday 11th September 2025

Rob Bradley is an award-winning freestyle rapper 🎼, published poet, and TEDx speaker who has performed globally and worked with artists around the world. He began writing poetry at age 8 and discovered rap at 12, inspired by legends like The Fugees, 2Pac, and The Notorious B.I.G. Rob uses rap to tell honest, emotional stories that promote positive messages.

Recently, Rob worked with pupils across schools on a special literacy project using rap and poetry. The results have been fantastic:

Positive Impact on Literacy 😊📖

· Pupils showed improved reading and writing skills.

· Many began writing their own raps at home and sharing them at school — sometimes with help from siblings and parents!

Boost in Language Confidence 🗣

· Children became more eager to take part in literacy activities.

· They started using richer vocabulary and expressing themselves more clearly.

Creativity & Self-Expression 📝

· Pupils wrote lyrics about their own lives and experiences.

· They performed their work in school corridors, playgrounds, and even after school.

This project promises to help children connect with language in a fun, meaningful way — building confidence, creativity, and a love for learning.
